8. April - Margaret River

 Current position
No all good with Marie-Theres´s ankle, "fixed" it with duct tape (no joke) to get a bit of a "hold" - but it actually is just perfect again.
5 very interesting weeks on our way now: did drive through the cool snowy mountain air, having stopped for oysters at beaches in NSW, got wet and cold in the top of the great dividing ranges (yes you could freeze off fingers in australia!! ... ), got really soaked up in Queenslands rain, did drive the long long outback stretches, chewed lots of dust in the outback heat (still got plenty of dust everywhere on the bike .... ) and then there were those strong hot gusts of wind south of Kalgoorlie .... just to change into cold nights in the south west! Experienced some "hard" times but also fun AND it´s so beautiful a Country!

We both enjoy the driving, Mth and I are a real team, just like in the "good old young days" ;-) Got into the habit to get up early in the morning, having that coffee and get hold of the local newspapers. Then driving the daily ration - longest stretch so far has been some 700k´s. This may sound a lot, but in Australia - it´s not ;-)  ... and then there always are the nice dinner´s: spaghetti aglio olio pepperoncino, or beef fillet from the BBQ, or Mth´s great noodle soup´s .... only I am not too much after her Potatoes ;-) Anybody´s doubt that we have no shortage of great australian wine (they got special storage deep in the side paniers of the bike ;-) ))

Yesterday we went to Leeuwin Estate, one of the famous Margaret River winemakers. They do have a gourmet restaurant there where we had some late afternoon "apero". Unfortunately only open for dinners on saturday nights. However we found a great seafood restaurant in Margaret River where we had the perfect dinner later on.

  2. MTh, I am glad to hear that all is good. Duct tape is a wonderful thing! 5 weeks already? Time flies when you are having fun. And I am glad to hear that you ARE having fun. I know how much fun it was for me to re-visit Germany and Switzerland. The snow pack here is down to only about 1m around the house where it slid off the roof....

    :)
